The 1999 solar eclipse was one of the most exciting astronomical events of the year. In celebration of this rare and magnificent event, astronomical artist David A. Hardy was specially commissioned to produce this illustration of a total solar eclipse, drawing on his previous experiences of eclipses as a guide. The 1999 eclipse was the first total solar eclipse to occur in England since 1927 and will be the last until 2090.
