This image shows a part of the Mojave Desert in the vicinity of Barstow, California. The city of Barstow is located just beyond the lower left corner of the image. The V-shaped light blue region near the center of the image is the Manix Basin, and the dark orange circular and rectangular patches within the basin are irrigated agricultural fields. Major transportation corridors run along the edges of the basin, including major railways (visible as brighter segments) and major interstate highways (visible as darker segments). The dark blue patch in the upper left corner of the image is Coyote Dry Lake. The image was obtained by SIR-C/X-SAR on the Space Shuttle Endeavour on April 12, 1994 and shows an area about 48 km (30 mi) on a side.
