The Xi Jian River is a river located in the southeast of China, in the southern province of Guangdong, about 46 mi (75 km) due west of Guangzhou. The Xi Jian region is one of the most productive mining regions in China and is known for its deposits of tungsten, lead, zinc, and gold. The largest gold mine in China is visible in the far upper left corner of the image, along a brightly reflective mountain ridge. The city of Zhaoing appears as the light blue regions along the banks of the Xi Jian River in the lower left corner of the image. The image was obtained by SIR-C/X-SAR on the Space Shuttle Endeavour on April 17, 1994 and shows an area about 24 mi (38 km) on a side, with North toward the upper right.
