This region of the winter sky comprises the Cone Nebula and the open Star Cluster NGC 2264. Centrally near the bright star S. Monocerotis is a peculiar tangle of nebulosity named the Foxfur nebula, which also lies adjacent to a brilliant blue cloud of reflection nebulosity. The cluster spans some 20 light years and is at a distance of 3000 light years.
