Cat hair; very fine type. Two strands show variations in the morphology (shape) of the keratinized cells. People who are allergic to cats may think it is the fur they are sensitive to, but it is actually a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. It is transferred to fur when cats groom themselves. Molecules of cat allergen become airborne and are inhaled, producing allergic reactions. Individual cats may produce more or less cat allergen, but all breeds are allergenic. There is no relationship between cat allergen levels and fur length.
