Confused adult flour beetle (Tribolium confusum). Confused flour beetles are some of the most abundant and injurious insect pests to grain products found in the United States. Flour beetles attack broken grains and flour dust, but probably cause the most damage by contaminating grain. The presence of dead beetle bodies and fecal pellets produce strong odors. This affects feed consumption by livestock as well as the marketability of the grain. Live insects indicate the presence of moisture and likelihood of mold.
