Star Cluster NGC 346 is an embryonic cluster of stars located some 210,000 light years away in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) toward the constellation Tucana. The SMC is a companion satellite galaxy to our own Milky Way galaxy. It has a diameter of about 18,000 light years and contains about 6 billion stars. This image shows a portion of the star cluster about 280 light years across.
