The GOODS South field is one of the latest targets of extremely deep observations obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. Like its predecessors the Hubble Deep Field and the Hubble Deep Field South, the GOODS South field seeks to identify extremely faint and distant galaxies and supernovae. But the GOODS South field has been observed with the new Advanced Camera for Surveys, which is far more powerful than the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 that was used to observe the Hubble Deep Field and Hubble Deep Field South. The GOODS South field will be used to study galaxy formation and evolution over most of cosmic history.
