This Interstellar Cloud in the Pleiades (or Barnard's Merope Nebula or IC 349) is a reflection nebula located some 380 light years away in the Pleiades toward the constellation Taurus. The bright star Merope is located just off the upper right corner of the image. The interstellar cloud consists of gas and dust that is drifting through the Pleiades star cluster at a speed of about 11 km per second (6.8 miles per second). The gas and dust are illuminated by intense radiation from Merope.
