Globular Cluster Omega Centauri is a globular star cluster located some 17,000 light years away toward the constellation Centaurus. Omega Centauri is made up of several million stars packed into a volume of about 450 light years in diameter. The image shows the very core of the star cluster; the rest of the cluster is of such extent that it will not fit into the field of view of the Hubble Space Telescope. About 50,000 stars are packed into the image, which covers a region about 13 light years on a side.
