Earth from Space 2001 Calendar

| This image shows an area of the Colorado River.
The Colorado River is a chief river of the arid southwestern
United States. It flows 2334 km (1450 mi), from the Rocky Mountains
of northern Colorado through the Gulf of California. The image
is centered near the border of Nevada and Arizona. Lake Mohave
is the dark feature that occupies the river valley toward the
top of the image. The Davis Dam is the bright white feature that
runs across the river toward the bottom center of the image.
The city of Laughlin, Nevada is seen below the dam to the left
, and the city of Bullhead City, Arizona is seen below the dam
to the right. The image was obtained by SIR-C/X-SAR on the Space
Shuttle Endeavour on April 13, 1994 and shows an area about 35
km (22 mi) on a side. |
