Earth from Space 2001 Calendar

| This image shows the area surrounding Mount
Rainier in Washington. Mount Rainier is a volcano in Washington
state. In this image, pale green regions are areas of forests,
blue and purple regions are areas of bare ground or clear-cut
forests, and white and green regions are areas of ice. The round
cone at the center of the image is the active volcano Mount Rainier,
which reaches a peak elevation of 4399 m (14,435 ft). The image
shows the White River (at the top) , the Nisqually River (on
the bottom right) , and the Carbon River (on the left) . The
dark patch at the top right of the image is Bumping Lake. The
image was obtained by SIR-C/X-SAR on the Space Shuttle Endeavour
on October 1, 1994 and shows an area about 59 km (37 mi) on a
side. |
