| This image shows the area of Death Valley, California.
In this image, rough surface areas show up as bright and smooth
surface areas show up as dark. The darker region toward the upper
left of the image are the smooth basins and valleys of Death
Valley, while the brighter regions toward the right and the left
of the image are the surrounding mountains. The image shows several
alluvial fansgravel deposits that wash down the sides
of mountains over timealong the mountain fronts. The
image also shows the sand dunes near Stove Pipe Wells toward
the bottom. Elevations in the Death Valley area range from 70
m (230 ft) below sea level through 3300 m (10,800 ft) above sea
level. |
