Earth from Space 2001 Calendar

This image shows the area surrounding Victoria, British Columbia. The white area toward the bottom of the image is the city of Victoria, which is located on the southern end of Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada and is the capital of the province of British Columbia. In this image, bright pink regions are areas of suburban development, brown regions are areas of forests, and blue regions are areas of fields or clear-cut forests. Victoria has grown to become a large and important commercial center of western Canada. Part of San Juan Island, in the state of Washington, is visible in the upper right of the image. The image was obtained by SIR-C/X-SAR on the Space Shuttle Endeavour on October 6, 1994 and shows an area about 37 km (23 mi) on a side.
