| The Sagittarius Star Field is a cloud of stars
located some 25,000 light years away toward the constellation
Sagittarius. The constellation Sagittarius occurs toward the
center of the Milky Way galaxy, where the stars are especially
concentrated. Most views of the center of the galaxy are blocked
by obscuring dust, but this particular region is relatively free
of dust, allowing for an unobstructed view. The color of a star
is directly related to its temperature, mass, and age. Blue stars
are hot, of high mass, and young, whereas red stars are cool,
of low mass, and old. Yellow stars like the Sun are of intermediate
temperature, mass, and age. |
